Ikaartuit Program
What is it?
The Ikaartuit program goes beyond the school setting by addressing adolescents and young adults who are out of school or who have dropped out of school as well as those who are psychosocially vulnerable. Although projects can be developed throughout the year, we focus on intensive summer field trips in order to maximize our service offer throughout the year.
This program aims to develop greater self-awareness among participants by identifying their strengths, setting goals for the development of life skills and know-how, creating a support network, identifying elements of commitment in the face of desired change, and identifying successful coping strategies for their situation.

How
KAYAK project
During a period of 10 days, participants take part in a series of activities:
CABIN project
For a period of three weeks, participants are called to participate in a socio-professional training course of carpentry which includes workshops of personal and professional development as well as traditional activities on the territory.
When the projects are finished, they celebrate their accomplishment with their friends and familly.
During a period of 10 days, participants take part in a series of activities:
- Leadership and team building activities;
- Introduction to kayaking;
- Camping outings to practice traditional activities.

For the moment, this program is run by our coordination team. We are in the process of training a team of Inuit kayak guides. The participation of psychosocial professionals in this program is imperative.

This program targets young people between the ages of 12 and 30 who are having difficulty attending school and/or are vulnerable from a psychosocial standpoint. Depending on the project, an age group is determined to ensure the homogeneity of the group.
